Is YOUR Home Ready for Winter?

Thursday, November 10, 2011

It’s hard to believe winter is just around the corner and we are not left with many more fall days to get prepared. Below are some tips for you to get started on winterizing your home:

Wrap, seal, and drain – Use heating tape to wrap any exposed exterior pipes, caulk around windows, and be sure to turn off interior valves for exterior faucets and drain any water left in the pipes.

Sweep it up – Prevent fires by having your chimney swept and don’t forget to clean out those gutters.

Safety check – This is the perfect time to make sure all of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are in good working order and have fresh back-up batteries!

Go backwards - Make those ceiling fans work for you this winter by reversing the direction! This will force warm air downward and recirculate, making your home temps more comfortable!

Maintenance check – Consider having your furnace serviced annually and don’t forget to keep some extra filters on hand to keep everything flowing properly!

These are just a few small tricks to help keep your home in tip-top shape this winter and usher you into the spring with a lot less on your to-do list!
